How does MLR Pre-Check work?
MLR Pre-Check works end-to-end: a reviewer starts a run with a “Run MLR” action inside Veeva; the AI then runs multi-dimensional pre-checks across all compliance dimensions, classifies every issue as Low, Medium, or High risk, and applies structured inline comments and visual highlights to the exact content section. When the run finishes, stakeholders receive an email notification with a summary of findings and a deep-link back to the document.
What checks does MLR Pre-Check perform?
MLR Pre-Check runs automated checks across the core compliance categories of pharma content review: Grammar & Syntax (spelling, grammar, and language correctness); Claims (verifies each promotional claim is supported and correctly anchored to its scientific reference); Regulatory (checks content against the rules and codes of the markets in scope); Medical (verifies medical accuracy and consistency, e.g. against the product SmPC); and Tone of Voice (ensures consistency in both medical and marketing tone). It also supports disclaimer checks and client-specific custom checks, and each check can be enabled, tuned, or disabled.
What prerequisites are needed to enable each check?
Each check requires different inputs. Grammar & Syntax needs nothing. Claims needs a claim library or reference library. Regulatory needs a review of the regulations for the markets in scope. Medical needs the product SmPCs. Marketing tone of voice needs the brand guidelines for the relevant brand, market, or target. Providing these upfront is what lets the AI tune checks to your standards.

It writes annotations only: it generates structured comments and visual highlights directly on the content, but never modifies document fields, lifecycle states, or the annotations made by human reviewers, so brand managers stay in control, in the tools they already use.
How are our data kept secure and isolated in MLR Pre-Check?
MLR Pre-Check is built for strict multi-tenant isolation: every operation carries the tenant identity, and no operation crosses tenant boundaries. Each client’s data is filtered to that tenant on every read and write, search indexes apply per-tenant filters, and supporting files are stored under per-tenant prefixes. Tenant entitlements are verified on every run, and partial results are persisted for audit purposes.
Can MLR Pre-Check handle scanned or flattened PDFs?
The solution supports OCR on scanned or flattened PDFs, but the quality of the extracted text depends on factors like scan quality and can introduce false positives. For top accuracy we recommend machine-readable PDFs, which guarantee the highest quality and reliability. Scanned or flattened content is therefore not advised for compliance-critical review.
What file formats and languages does MLR Pre-Check support?
MLR Pre-Check is multi-format, PDF, Word, PPT, Excel, JPEG, HTML and Office files, and more, and multi-language, supporting more than 40 languages. It can handle multi-language content within a single asset, and the interface itself can be localized into any language, including Asian languages such as Chinese. It is available as SaaS or on-premise, with options for source anonymization and DAM integration.
Can the checks be customized, and can clients build their own rules?
Yes. Review categories are client-configurable from day one: through a control panel, teams can enable or disable each check, set its severity and regulatory framework, and choose who is notified. The solution also supports adding and customizing the checks performed. Building fully custom rules or agents directly by end users is not yet available, but checks can be tailored to your guidelines.
How long does it take to enable MLR Pre-Check for one brand in one market?
For a brand in a market already in scope, activation typically takes 2–5 days, depending on complexity. For a new market not yet in scope, it takes about 2 weeks, mainly to fine-tune the regulatory checks for that market.
